Detroit's Lindsey Hunter made a jumper and former 76er Jerry Stackhouse followed his own miss to give Detroit an 89-88 lead with 35 seconds left. Iverson missed a jumper and Stackhouse made 1-of-2 from the line with 18 seconds to go, giving Detroit a 90-88 lead. Iverson dribbled into the lane but lost his dribble and had to dive to the floor to salvage a jump ball with John Crotty with seven seconds left. He won the jump to teammate Eric Snow and took a return pass but his drive was blocked by former college teammate Jerome Williams. Iverson grabbed the loose ball and threw in a hook that clearly came after the final buzzer. "I saw Jerome coming back and I thought I could beat him, but he got a piece of it," Iverson said. "He just made a great play. Usually, I get it over people as high as I shoot it, but he has great athletic ability and got a finger on it." "It's like Michael Jordan. You know the ball is going to end up in his hands," Williams said. "The defense has to be ready to react. If he gets a step on you, it's going to be a foul. But I was in good position and blocked the shot." Stackhouse, bidding for a berth as an All-Star reserve, scored 26 points and Christian Laettner added 15 and 16 rebounds for Detroit, which allowed less than 90 points for the first time since December 29 at Chicago. "It was a much needed win for us, just to raise the confidence level of our team," Pistons coach Alvin Gentry said. "We beat a good team with a good record. I thought we gutted the game out. We did a good job of coming up with stops at the end of the game. I thought Jerome made a great defensive play at the end." "We had lost six straight and Grant was out again, so you knew everybody was going to sell out all the time," Williams said. George Lynch had 13 points and 11 rebounds and former Piston Theo Ratliff added 11 and 11 for the Sixers, who fell to 10-2 in games decided by three points or less and have lost three of four since a season-high four-game winning streak. One week ago, Philadelphia made 30-of-32 free throws in a win over Indiana. However, the Sixers were just 18-of-30 from the line today and are 37-of-65 in their last two contests, losing both by a combined nine points. "We just missed free throws and we did not make our shots," 76ers coach Larry Brown said. "When you're in a tight game like that, you must make shots.
